About Shea Insurance Agency
The Shea Insurance Agency Inc. is a family-owned business established in 1931. The agency, formerly known as the Algonquin Insurance Agency Inc., was founded in 1931 by Joseph L . Shea, Esquire, in Brighton, MA. Algonquin Insurance Agency Inc. was chosen because the office's location in Brighton, MA., was under the Algonquin phone exchange. In those years, phone exchanges were used, and the thought was that the agency name would be easier to remember due to the phone exchange.
After serving in the Korean war, Joseph L. Shea, Jr. joined the agency. The agency remained in Brighton, and Joseph L. Shea Jr. added a second location in the early 1970s in Holliston, MA. He maintained both offices until late in the 1970s, closing the Boston office to consolidate and maintain one office in Holliston, MA. His family lived in Holliston, and he wanted the agency in one location.
Kathleen Shea Chapin joined her father in the family business in 1982. That is when it was decided to change the corporation's name to Shea Insurance Agency Inc. They both ran the business until he died in 1991. Now the agency is owned and operated by Kathleen (Shea) Chapin.
The agency's longevity has been carried on through three Shea family generations. Much has changed over the years in the insurance business and the agency system, but one thing remains constant: our commitment to our clients.
